We are not being told all the facts and the true figures of what is happening to our amenities and taxes.
Example: 34, 466 (POA figure ) ballots were mailed out for the last election. That's one per paid annuity: 34, 466 x $ 16 = $ 551, 456 per month; $ 551, 456 x 12 = $ 6, 617, 472 per year.
Add 12, 879 (census figure of housing units ) x $ 8 (extra homeowners pay ) = $ 103, 032 per month; $ 103, 032 x 12 = $ 1, 236, 384 per year.
Plus $ 6, 517, 472, and you have $ 7, 853, 856 - almost $ 8 million-per-year income to maintain the water system and recreation.
The POA - Roberta Dale and company - say that is not enough. Seems like we heard that threat before the vote on incorporation.
I asked for a list of the employees of the POA, whose salaries are paid partly by me, and POA Communications Manager Christie Attlesey refused. Instead, I received a list of 300-plus positions on the POA payroll, no names or amounts. This does not include the latest hire, a volunteer coordinator, at over $ 55, 000 to $ 60, 000, including all benefits. In most organizations, a volunteer does this task. Bella Vista residents, you need to ask questions, demand reasonable answers, voice your opinions or write letters. We who pay the bills deserve honest answers. Mrs. Ernest Hodges Bella Vista One way to reduce goose numbers A simple solution to the overabundance of Canada geese in Bella Vista is simple. Require Bill Williams to take 33 geese home and keep them. Require Brian Grosnickle to take 33 geese home and keep them. Require Anita Werts to take 34 geese home and keep them. Require all three persons to keep the geese and all the offspring generated by the geese. That solves this year's problem. Next year we can find three more deserving persons to volunteer.
Bill Davis Bella Vista Vets are grateful Our poppy distribution to help the veterans, which was June 6 and 7, was very successful. We, the American Legion Post 341 and its auxiliary, wish to thank each and every one who so generously supported us with their donations. We are indeed grateful.
The poppies are made by our veterans in Fayetteville, and money received goes to support our veterans and their families.
I wish to thank all of the dedicated volunteers for their hours of service spent during the campaign. Our success was only made possible by you.
We are very appreciative to the merchants in Bella Vista, Bentonville and our neighbors across the state line in Missouri for the use of their facilities to distribute the poppies.
Again, we thank you for your cooperation and support of our veterans. May we never forget the sacrifices our veterans made for the freedoms we enjoy. Fern Haskins Norvil Lantz American Legion Post 341 Bella Vista Where are editorials on current events ? Perhaps I am not the average Bella Vista resident, but I am not really interested in reading columns about how the washing machine got fixed. My children and neighbors would not be interested in the details of replacing the motor of my AC or how I plan to get rid of the chipmunk in my yard. The editorials on littering and humane treatment to animals left you with a positive "thought for the day. "I look forward to editorials with more substance. Sue Tellkamp Bella Vista Many made sale a success The residents of Neffwood Lane extend thanks to Bella Vista for a very successful Great American Bake Sale, combined with a garage sale, on Saturday, June 21.
Proceeds from the sale were $ 667. 80. A check in this amount has already been sent to the Share Our Strengths organization, which will disburse the money to help feed hungry children.
We thank those of you who baked, brought, bought, contributed and helped. We want to acknowledge the contributions of local businesses who helped: Allen's Foods, Concordia, Harps Food Store of Bella Vista and Village Inn of Bentonville.
We say 66, 780 "thank yous "and a great big "thank you "to The Weekly Vista and to reporter Andra Atteberry for the wonderful newspaper coverage. Martha Sheets Bella Vista Deal with geese now I enjoy seeing occasional geese and hearing them flying above our lakes, making their pleasant calls to one another. It is also enjoyable at times to see them by the shore by the highway (provided that they do not congregate in large enough numbers to block traffic or at least make it hazardous to proceed on the road. ) I would certainly not enjoy having them multiplying and making themselves at home in my yard, leaving extensive droppings as they are already doing elsewhere in our city.
In Rochester, Minn., I observed several years ago how repulsive and potentially dangerous it can be to have Canada geese multiplying and essentially taking over the property of those unfortunate people who have established their homes on a lake that geese subsequently chose to appropriate as their own.
The Rochester geese are an entertaining sight for Mayo Clinic patients and other visitors to watch in the air, flying out to neighboring cornfields for food. The sight of thousands of them at Silver Lake is even somewhat of a tourist attraction I had long thought I wanted to see until friends managed to drive me there - many blocks away from the city's center but still easily accessible by car.
I was totally unprepared for the sight of thousands of geese swimming on the lakes, filling the sky, obscuring people's yards except for the sight of their excrement everywhere, and completely blocking the road ahead of us. Although I immediately had my fill of the sight, it was difficult for my driver friend to get the car turned around for our departure. The geese had swarmed around us quickly and closely.
I surely sympathized with the innocent Rochester homeowners who had invested in property and built their homes on the shore of Silver Lake.
I wondered at their ability to leave their homes at all and to return without hitting the birds and with a minimum of driving on - and walking on - the ever-present droppings. Now is the time for Bella Vista to take action to prevent greater problems on our golf courses, trails, and lakeshore property while the situation is still potentially controllable in practical ways.
