Kansas Sunflower Club

The next meeting will be Monday, May 19, at 5: 30 p. m. at Metfield Neighborhood Grill. Hosts will be Marjorie and Richard Davis. Meals will be ordered and served in the dining room.

Following the meal, Margie and Friends will entertain with a sing-along.

The club meets the third Monday of each month. All former Kansans are invited to join. There are no dues.

The Benton County Democratic Women’s Club is scheduled to convene May 19 at 11: 30 a. m. at the Bentonville Clarion Hotel and Convention Center.

S p e a k i n g will be Randall Woods, a professor from the University of Arkansas where he has taught history since 1971. His topic will be the unparalleled growth of the military industrial complex from the Vietnam era through the present Iraq War, as well as how the fear of terrorism effects citizens of the U. S.

Meetings are held the third Wednesday of each month at Riordan Hall. This month’s meeting will begin at 12: 30 p. m. May 21 and will feature a presentation by a representative from the Benton County Women’s Shelter.

Bella Vista Nyte Tyme Quilters will meet at 7 p. m. May 19.

Donna Roche will present a program on “ Landscape Quilting. ”

Quilters usually meet the third Monday of every month except December. New and experienced quilters are welcome.

The group gathers at United Lutheran Church on the corner of Cooper Road and Arkansas Highway 279 (Forest Hills Boulevard ).

The annual “ Airing of the Quilts ” is slated for May 22 at the home of Loneta Blevins, 3302 Perry Road, in Rogers. Quilt airings traditionally mark the beginning of spring, when women could air quilts outside after a long winter.

QUILT members will line the rail fence surrounding Blevins ’ property with their quilts. The public is invited to drive by and stop to look at the colorful creations.

Members will have a potluck dinner and are asked to each bring a dish and a chair. Drinks will be provided. Those bringing quilts are encouraged to pin written information to the quilt. The airing begins at 6 p. m.

There will be no program, although Digital Quiltz from Eureka Springs will be the vendor.

The Bella Vista Computer Club invites members and nonmembers to sign up for classes being offered in May and June. Topics include:

PC Maintenance, from 1 p. m. to 3 p. m. May 12 and 14;

Digital Photography, from 10 a. m. to noon May 13, 15, 20 and 22;

Basic Computing for Vista, from 1 p. m. until 3 p. m. May 13, 15, 20 and 22;

Basic Computing for XP, from 10 a. m. to noon June 2, 4, 9 and 11;

Internet, from 1 p. m. until 3 p. m. June 2 and 4; and

Getting Started with Computers, from 10 a. m. to noon May 14 and from 1 p. m. to 3 p. m. June 11. The fee for this class is $ 6 for members and $ 25 for nonmembers.

Fees for eight-hour classes are $ 24 for members and $ 40 for nonmembers. Four-hour classes are $ 12 for members and $ 30 for nonmembers. Classes are held in the club’s classroom in Suite 120 at Highlands Crossing Center, 1801 Forest Hills Blvd.

There will be free openhouse computer-help clinics from 10 a. m. to 1 p. m. May 21 and June 7 in the classroom.

The club’s next Genealogy Special-interest Group meeting will begin at 10 a. m. Saturday, May 17, in the classroom. “ Forgetfulness, ” by Ward Just, will be discussed at the club’s May 20 meeting.

The meeting will begin at 1 p. m. at First United Methodist Church of Bella Vista, 20 Boyce Drive. Visitors are welcome and asked to wear nametags. Hill ’n ’ Dale Hikers

The club will hike the horse trail at Pea Ridge National Military Park on Saturday, May 17. This 3- to 7-mile hike is considered easy.

Participants should bring water and a picnic lunch.

Hikers will leave Bella Vista at 10 a. m. from the parking lot above Harps at Town Center. Anyone interested in going should call Tanny Jones at 876-1645. Photography Club

The Bella Vista Photography Club will have a special photo session at its May meeting. The club will meet at 9 a. m. Saturday at the Tanyard Creek Nature Trail in Bella Vista. Those needing directions or additional information can call Dick Thorson at 876-2128.

The program will be centered on walking the trail and taking pictures. All members are reminded to bring their cameras. Anyone who has a tripod is asked to bring it along, as well.

The club usually meets the third Saturday of every month at 1 p. m. at Community Church. Guests and new members are always welcome.

The club will host its spring dance Wednesday, May 21, at Riordan Hall.

Participants are asked to bring finger foods at 6 p. m. to share at 6: 30 p. m. Dancing to The Happy Five will be from 7 p. m. to 9: 30 p. m.

The public is welcome to attend for $ 7. 50 per person or $ 15 per couple. Singles are welcome

Entry to Riordan is free for those with a Property Owners Association photo identification card. Otherwise, cost is $ 2 per POA policy.

Starlight is a fragrance-free club.

This will be the last dance of the season. The club will resume meeting in September.

The Northwest Arkansas Genealogical Society will meet at 6 p. m. May 19 at Bentonville Public Library, 405 S. Main St. A presentation on the resources available in the fourcounty area will be given.

Anyone interested in family research is welcome. Noon Lions Club President Marv Mickelson presided at the club’s May 1 meeting at Acropolis Restaurant in Bentonville. Mickelson presented Darlene Shelton with her 15-year chevron. There will be an installation of officers banquet June 19, starting between 4: 30 p. m. and 5: 30 p. m. at Metfield Clubhouse in Bella Vista. Call Mickelson at 855-4819 to sign up. The Brainerd-Bella Vista Club will have its monthly luncheon at 11: 30 a. m. Wednesday, May 21, at Metfield Clubhouse in Bella Vista. Lunch from the menu will be at noon.

Members gather the third Wednesday of the month yearround in the Bella Vista area. From May through September, meetings are also held at the Sawmill Inn in Brainerd, Minn.

As part of the Adopt-a-Highway program, the Bentonville-Bella Vista Evening Lions Club provided volunteers May 3 to remove trash from the section of U. S. Highway 71 that stretches south from the visitors center to the Interstate 540 exchange. In all, the Lions collected enough litter to fill 12 large trash bags.

Lion Charles Beam leads this activity, while other members donate their services whenever possible. The club takes part in the program at regular intervals throughout the year as a means of fulfilling its commitment to public service and community improvement. Welcome Club Dinning Out Group

Dinner at P. F. Chang’s in Rogers is planned for Thursday, May 22. Social hour will be from 5 p. m. to 6 p. m., with dinner immediately after.

The group has moved its monthly meeting forward one week because of the Memorial Day holiday. Members will gather Monday, May 19, at Concordia in Bella Vista. Coffee will be served at 9 a. m., and the meeting will begin at 9: 30 a. m.

The program will feature candidate appreciation and a meet-and-greet. Refreshments will be served. Garden Club

The Bella Vista Garden Club meets the fourth Wednesday of the month, January through April and resuming in September, at United Lutheran Church, 100 Cooper Road.

Upcoming events include the club’s annual luncheon June 4 at Embassy Suites in Rogers and a juried flower show, titled “ Lazy Daisy Summer, ” from 10 a. m. to 2 p. m. June 7 at Bella Vista Community Church. The show is free to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

At their May 15 meeting, organizers announced that the group has sent a total of 5, 944 quilts to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock

Ashley Clark, who teaches first grade at Pea Ridge Lower Elementary School, brought quilts made by students to be auctioned off Wednesday, May 21, from 9 a. m. to 10: 30 a. m. in the school’s library.

The group’s next meeting will be Tuesday, May 20, at 9: 30 a. m. at the Presbyterian Church in Pea Ridge.
