BENTONVILLE — A rezoning request for a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market in southwest Bentonville tops the list of items to be discussed at the Bentonville City Council’s next meeting Tuesday night.

Stephen L. Giles has requested a rezoning from agricultural (A-1 ) to general commercial (C-2 ) for 5. 66 acres located at the intersection of Southwest Regional Airport Boulevard (Arkansas Highway 12 ) and Southwest I Street.

The developer is planning a large-scale development, which would include a Neighborhood Market, Wal-Mart’s grocery store model. Due to the increased amount of growth along Highway 12, city staff agrees a mixed-use development with amenities is needed in the southwest portion of Bentonville to alleviate infrastructure inadequacies.

The council will also look at reallocating $ 10, 000 in Community Development Block Grant Funds to go toward a homeless assessment project. The project, currently conducted by the University of Arkansas, is a census of all homeless persons in northwest Arkansas as part of an action plant to reduce chronic homelessness in the area.

The meeting will be held at 6 p. m. Tuesday in the council chambers on East Central Avenue.

The council will also take action on the following items:

A final plat for Lonesome Pond, a 60-lot single-family subdivision at the intersection of Southwest 14 th Street and Southwest Tunica Avenue.

A public hearing and ordinance for an easement vacation at Bentonville Industrial Park Lot 5.

A public hearing and ordinance for an easement vacation at Vintage Estates.

Appointment of Theresa Rouhselang to complete Steve Creekmore’s unexpired term on the city’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board;

Appointment of Sam Pearson to the city’s Board of Adjustments;

An award of a bid to the G. W. Van Keppel Company for the purchase of a mobile screening plant for the composting facility.

An ordinance authorizing the city to enter into an agreement for the city’s building and property insurance, and waiving the requirement of competitive bidding.
