Wrong time for rate increase
I just want to know — WHY ?
With the economy the way it is, gas and food prices going up daily, people being laid off from their jobs, payroll decreases (all happening in my family ), why did the city have to increase the electric rates ? Talk about kicking a man when he is down !
I believe ‘ we the people’ of Bentonville deserve an explanation of this decision. Just because there has been no increase in electric rates since 2005 is not justifiable to me. The increase in our population, housing and businesses should be an increase to the city in themselves. Let’s see a breakdown or spreadsheet of where this extra money is going to go. Did the increase really have to take place right now ?
I can just about bet you 100 percent that if this had been put to a vote before the people, it would not have passed. Why did the school bonds not pass on the last election ? Simple — people are being eaten alive by taxes and increases on everything but their wages. Then our wonderful city does this. You say, “ Then move to somewhere else. ” Well, I’m thinking seriously about that very thing ! Rebecca J. Booth
