Most voters have no doubt read or heard Mary Lou Slinkard's name. Slinkard - who's running for House District 100 against Byron Warren - has served as Benton County clerk since 1981. She has been part of the fabric of county government for as long as many Benton Countians can remember.
But her long service to the county has given Slinkard more than just name recognition. It's also given her a familiarity with the issues facing District 100. It's that knowledge of the area, combined with her long track record of public service, that's won Slinkard our endorsement.
We found Warren - a firefighter and city councilman from Gravette - to be a strong candidate. District 100 could certainly do worse than sending him to Little Rock.
But it could do just a little better by sending Slinkard instead. That's our advice.
