Dan Douglas, who is challenging incumbent David Hill in the District 9 justice of the peace race, is an all-too-rare find for voters: someone who seems interested in county government for all the right reasons, and whose background gives every indication he can be an outstanding JP.
From zoning to watershed management and fiscal oversight, Douglas' take on the issues facing the county are sensible and well reasoned.
We were impressed by Douglas' command of issues and his enthusiasm for serving the public - impressed enough that he's got our endorsement in this race.
We know of no particular reason to vote against Hill, and we wouldn't view the loss of his experience lightly. But Douglas is an especially strong challenger, and a vote for him seems a better bet for the county's future at this point.
