Many of the positive things we wrote about Linda Bisbee could also be written about Vickey Boozman, who’s squaring off against Tim Summers in the race for House District 99.
Boozman, the widow of former state Sen. and Health Department Director Fay Boozman, also had a front-row seat from which to learn the lawmaking process. That’s given her valuable insight most candidates seeking a first term couldn’t hope to draw upon.
The problem for Boozman is that she is facing a far, far stronger opponent in veteran Justice of the Peace and former Bentonville Councilman Tim Summers. In fact, we see Summers as the strongest candidate in any of this year’s legislative races — someone voters would be remiss not to support.
Summers is positioned to hit the ground running in Little Rock, thanks to his experience on the Quorum Court — where he’s immersed himself in budgetary issues — and the years he’s spent building relationships that extend beyond Benton County. We also found his command of the issues facing Arkansas a bit more polished than Boozman’s.
The voters of District 99 have a solid candidate in Boozman. But they have a real opportunity in Tim Summers.
