BENTONVILLE — It was a good day to be a kid at Life Church in Bentonville on Saturday.

The fledgling church hosted Kidz Day at Apple Glen Elementary School, which is where the church meets at 10 a. m. on Sundays. The church will continue its celebration of children Sunday morning, Pastor Jim Laudell said.

“ We wanted to get out of the four walls and so we volunteered at Fourth Fest and we had a grand opening and now this, ” he said. “ We wanted to let people know we are here. ”

The church started meeting at Apple Glen on Jan. 15 but the small congregation started in Laudell’s home. He moved to the area two years ago from Tulsa, Okla., because he felt God was calling him to start a church in the growing community.

“ We’re a baby but we’re not still crawling. We’re starting to walk, ” he said of the congregation of about 35 people.

Cleburne Cline and Darlene Cline are church members who helped with the event.

“ We want to let the community know we’re here and give the kids an opportunity to have fun, ” Darlene Cline said.

People from other churches joined in the fun either as game hosts, clowns or participants. The event included pony rides, inflatable games and other fun features for children.

Nancy Desler brought her two children, Emily, 10, and Nathan, 7. The children played on the inflatables and rode the ponies.

“ It’s exciting and it’s free, ” Emily Desler said. “ We get to do all kinds of stuff. ”

Andy Strecker brought his sons, Caleb, 3, and Ethan, 2.

“ I rode the ponies, ” Caleb Strecker said.

Strecker said his sons were also wanting to play on the school’s playground equipment and they enjoyed playing in the fire truck that was on hand from the Bentonville Fire Department.
