MAYB tournaments announced
The following tournaments have been announced by the Mid-America Youth Basketball:
· Jan. 24-25 in Fayetteville; Grades 3 through 8 boys and girls; Registration deadline is Jan. 9; and
· Jan 31-Feb. 1 in Springdale; Grades 3 through 8 boys and girls; Registration deadline is Jan. 16.

BASEBALL
BYB annual meeting set
The annual meeting for Bentonville Youth Baseball, the newly formed successor organization to Bentonville Little League and Bentonville Babe Ruth, will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 29, in the training room at the Bentonville Fire Department Station No. 1.
The meeting will include a recap of 2008 and a preview of programming for 2009.The meeting is open to anyone with an interest in youth baseball in Bentonville
The station is located on the corner of Southwest A and Eighth streets.Those attending must park in the parking lot on the south side of the building.
BYB registration under way
Bentonville Youth Baseball has started player registration for the 2009 season.
Registrations are being taken online with a credit card at www.bentonvillecalripken.org or www.bentonvillebaberuth.org. Registrations may be downloaded from the Web site (click on the Handout button) and mailed to the address on the form.
The league is open to any child living in the Bentonville School District who is at least age 4 and not more than 18 on April 30, 2009.
In person registrations are scheduled as follows:
· Jan. 10, 9 a.m. to noon, Bentonville Fire Station No. 1 corner of Southwest A and Eighth streets;
· Jan. 15, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Bentonville Pizza Hut, South Walton Boulevard; and
· Jan. 17, 9 a.m. to noon, Bentonville Fire Station No. 1 This year the Bentonville Pizza Hut is hosting a registration and fundraiser night for Bentonville Youth Baseball. Bentonville Youth Baseball will receive a percentage of any pizza purchase (dine-in or carry-out) made between 5-8 p.m. on Jan. 15. Pea Ridge youth sign-ups
Sign-ups for Pea Ridge youth baseball and T-ball will be held from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, Jan. 24 and Feb. 7 at the upper elementary gymnasium. T-ball and baseball are offered for children ages 4-12.A copy of the child's birth certificate must be provided if the child has not played in the league before. War Cats tryouts
The Arkansas War Cats minor league football team of the World Football League will host its first tryout Saturday, Jan. 17, from 6:30-9 p.m. at All-Star Sports Arena in Springdale. LACROSSE
NWA Lacrosse Club tryouts
The YMCA of NWA Lacrosse Club will be conducting spring signups for boys on Saturday Jan. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Arvest community room in downtown Bentonville. Sign ups for girls will be held on Saturday Jan. 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. also at the Arvest community room. Boys and girls currently in grades 5-12 are eligible to play and no experience is necessary.This is the first season for the girls team; they will play teams from Oklahoma and Missouri. SOCCER
Youth Spring League registration
Registration for the 2009 Youth Spring Soccer League will be taken until Feb. 13 at the Rogers Activity Center. Children ages five (5) through sixteen (16) are eligible to participate. Children must turn 5 by April 4, 2009, to participate.All Under-6 through Under-12 players must register even if they played in the fall 2008 season.
The registration fees are as follows: Under-6 ($35), Under-7 through Under-12 ($40), Under-14 ($100), and Under-16 ($100).The Under-14 and Under-16 registration is only for players that did not play in the fall 2008 season.
Each participant must have a current RAC membership ($20).The membership is current for one (1) year from the date of purchase.

SOFTBALL
Fastpitch players needed
The Springdale Chicks, a 14U travel team, is adding competitive fastpitch softball players to fill spots on the 2009 roster.There are girls moving into this team, but a few top-notch players are needed to complete the group.
Players should be born in 94-95, bring a high level of intensity, be willing to make a long-term commitment and expect to play a lot of softball.
Tournaments are primarily played in northwest Arkansas, northeast Oklahoma and Joplin, Mo.
The season is almost year-round with practices beginning in January and tournaments running from March through October.

Snowball Classic
The 28th annual Snowball Classic will be held Jan. 23-25 at Veterans Park in Rogers.Two divisions will be offered: Bronze Division (zero HRs, outs); and Silver Division (3 HRs,"one-up", fouls).
Silver Division will be USSSA-sanctioned and will play under USSSA rules. Proof of USSSA registration will be required for participation in the Silver Division; USSSA registration will be taken at the tournament site.
Bronze Division will be NSA-sanctioned and will play under NSA rules. Proof of NSA registration will be required for participation in the Bronze Division. NSA registration will be taken at the tournament site, or teams may register themselves at playnsa.com.
Entry fee is $195.The entry fee must be received before the team will be placed in the bracket. Scheduling consideration will be given to teams that are traveling in from a great distance.Teams may bring their own softballs or purchase them at the tournament. Due to the on-going renovation at Veterans Park only 42 teams will be accepted this year.
Early entry is encouraged since, based on past history, the tournament will fill up and teams will be turned away.

Fast-pitch league registration
Registration for the Rogers Community-School Recreation Association girls fast-pitch softball program will be taken through March 20 at the Rogers Activity Center.
The program begins with girls currently in kindergarten, and goes up to 18-&-Under (girls who did not turn 19 before Jan. 1, 2009).
Cost for grades K and 1 is $40; cost for older divisions is $50. Each participant must have a current RAC membership ($20).The membership is current for one (1) year from the date of purchase.

TENNIS
Pinnacle Winter Junior Tennis Program
Pinnacle Country Club will be running both an indoor and outdoor tennis program this winter. The indoor program will take place at Central Park Elementary on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons in January and February. The class for kids ages 4-6 will run from 4-4:30 p.m. and kids ages 7-12 will play from 4:30-5:15 p.m.
The outdoor program will run Monday through Thursday from 4:30-6 p.m. for intermediate to advanced players. This will be a drop in program as the weather permits.
