SPRINGDALE Rogers Heritage cannot buy a win in the 7 AWest.
Springdale Har-Ber pounced on Heritage early with a relentless passing attack en route to a 49-17 win on homecoming at Jarrell Williams Bulldog Stadium.
Har-Ber senior quarterback Zach Faust took advantage of Heritages young defensive backs early.
In the first half, Faust threw five touchdown passes while completing 21 of 30 attempts for 347 yards and one interception. Faust capped off the half by completing a 56-yard throw to Tay-Tay Lane for a touchdown to give the Wildcats (6-1, 3-1 ) a commanding 35-7 lead at the intermission.
We got going offensively with our passing game, said Har-Ber coach Chris Wood. We were able to throw underneath a little bit and set a tone.
Faust ended the game with 26 of 45 for 437 yards and seven touchdowns along with two interceptions.
Zach needed that, Wood said. Our passing game is going to be very important down the road and we got to be able to throw the ball a little bit. I was pleased and I thought out receivers had a good night.
Eight Wildcats caught passes including who Josh McKinney had nine catches for 117 yards and Lane had three catches for 109 yards, including two touchdown catches.
Josh had a good night at receiver and Tay-Tay Lane played well, Wood said. Overall, I am really pleased with all our receivers and I would have liked to do a little bit more with our running game but Heritage did a good job of stacking the box.
Simply, Har-Ber dominated the opening half. The Wildcats had 416 yards of offense to 139 for Heritage (3-4, 0-4 ).
Faust led the Wildcats on a sevenplay, 86-yard drive capped off by a 13-yard touchdown pass to Brye Payton to start the game. Payton added a second touchdown catch in Brown passed for 248 yards the second quarter.
This was Heritage fourth straight conference loss after starting its inaugural season with three wins against nonconference teams. Heritage has allowed 49 points or more in each of its losses.
They played well and we didnt play well, said Heritage coach Perry Escalante. They had a bit more speed than what we are ready for and they burned us deep early. When you dont cover or are confused and leave people wide open that kind of stuff is going to happen. We deserved the butt-whipping we got in that first half. We played a little bit better in the second half.
Although the Wildcats controlled the flow, Heritage did manage a few minor victories.
One came after Har-Ber opened with a 14-0 lead, Heritage managed to score when Grant Driver caught a halfback pass by Zac Stewart before Har-Ber scored 21 unanswered points to close out the half.
For the most part, the Wildcats were able to contain Heritage sophomore quarterback Reed Brown, who completed 20 of 42 passing for 248 yards with two interceptions and a touchdown pass.
Wood, the man who started the Har-Ber program in 2005, knows that Heritage has a tough road in its first season.
Heritage was resilient, Wood said. They came down and got some points on the board. Overall we were a bit sloppy at times and I am pleased what we did offensively and defensively.
