BHS wrestling camps scheduled next month

BENTONVILLE - Bentonville High School will host two wrestling camps this summer.

The first will be held July 17-18 at Barker Middle School for grades K-6 (9 a.m. to noon ) and grades 7-12 (1-4 p.m. ). Special training will be provided by guest coach Chad Van Zante, who has coached at high schools in Nebraska, Colorado and most recently Iowa.

Basic technique and mental approach will be taught in the morning session while the afternoon will be more advanced training. Other coaches will be available. Each camper will need to bring wrestling shoes, shorts and a T-shirt. Cost is $ 40 per wrestler. Camp T-shirts will be provided for pre-registered athletes.

Bentonville will also host the "Nation's Best"Wrestling Camp on July 25-26 from 9 a.m. to 3: 30 p.m. at Barker Middle School for athletes in grades 7-12. Featured clinicians will include: Rob Hermann (1996-2000 U. S. Olympic Greco-Roman coach, U. S. Navy team coach, World Team member 1983-85, World Team coach, 10-time military champion );

Sam Hazewinke (four-time NCAA All-American at Oklahoma State, national runner-up, junior world champion ); Wes Roger (NCAA All-American at Missouri, University of Missouri head coach from 1986-95, Big 8 Coach of the Year in 1992 ); and Khris Whelan (two-time NCAA All-American at Missouri, 1976 Olympic alternate, fourtime junior national champ, national judo champ ).
