BENTONVILLE — State playoff seedings will be up for grabs today as the Bentonville baseball and softball teams finish their regular season schedules.
League champion and defending state champ Fayetteville is the only 7 A- West Conference baseball team to secure a seed. The other five playoff spots will be determined after Bentonville makes up its games at Har-Ber.
The Tigers and Wildcats were forced to suspend Game 1 of their doubleheader in the top of the fifth inning on April 2 because of heavy rain and lightning.
The game will pick up from that spot — with the Wildcats leading 5-4 with one out — at 4: 30 p. m. at the Tyson Sports Complex.
The Tigers, who have lost four in a row, can finish anywhere from fourth to sixth depending on today’s games.
A Bentonville sweep would move the Tigers (13-14, 6-6 ) to fourth with Fort Smith Southside (second ) and Rogers (third ) ahead of them.
Har-Ber (17-7, 8-4 ) needs just one win to take second place — and the other bye — with Southside and Rogers following.
A split puts the Tigers fifth and a Har-Ber sweep drops BHS to sixth. Van Buren will be fifth or sixth.
Little Rock Catholic, Conway and North Little Rock are still in the running the top three seeds out of the 7 A-Central. That conference finishes its regular season today also.
The Class 7 A State Tournament begins Friday at Burns Park in North Little Rock. Lady Tigers
Bentonville (21-3, 10-3 ) can move into the No. 2 spot and earn a bye with a win against rival Rogers today.
Defending state champ Fayetteville (26-2, 13-1 ) has already won its fifth consecutive conference championship and will be the No. 1 seed.
The Lady Tigers own the tiebreaker against Van Buren and a Bentonville win would move the Pointerettes to third.
The Lady Mounties (11-19, 6-7 ) own the tiebreaker against Fort Smith Northside and can move up to the fourth spot with a win. A loss would put Rogers at No. 5.
Fort Smith Southside will be the sixth seed.
North Little Rock and Bryant have earned byes out of the 7 A-Central.
