BASEBALL Vipers tryouts The Vipers, a 10-and-Under USSSA baseball team based in Bentonville, will host tryouts for the 2008 season on Aug. 9-10. Cobras seek pitcher The Benton County Cobras, a 10- & - Under USSSA baseball team, is looking to add a pitcher for the 2008 season. Must be 10 years old or younger on April 30, 2008. BASKETBALL Bentonville tryouts The Bentonville boys basketball team will hold final tryouts for any sophomores, juniors or new residents on Monday, Aug. 13, at 4: 30 at Tiger Arena. BOWLING Bella Vista Sunday Night League The Bella Vista Sunday Night League is in need of bowlers. An organizational meeting is set for 6 p. m. on Aug. 5 at Bentonville Bowling Center. FOOTBALL Seventh-grade tryouts in Bentonville The Bentonville Athletic Department will have football tryouts for any seventh-grade student interested in trying out for the Lincoln or Washington Junior High eighthgrade football teams. Washington tryouts will be held Thursday, Aug. 9, from 6–8 p. m. at Washington Junior High. Lincoln tryouts will be held Thursday, Aug. 9, from 6–8 p. m. at Lincoln Junior High. All participants must submit a valid physical completed by a licensed physician at the time of tryouts. Participants will be will be evaluated in agilities, punt, pass, and kick. Tryouts are open to students currently enrolled at LJHS or WJHS only. Please note this is a tryout only, participation on an eighth grade team is not guaranteed. Bentonville parents meeting Bentonville head football coach Barry Lunney and the Tiger coaching staff will host a parents meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 7, at 6: 30 p. m. at the large classroom of the Tiger Athletic Complex. Parents of all incoming sophomores and first year Bentonville players are asked to be there at 6: 30 p. m. Junior and Senior player parents are asked to join the group by 6: 45 p. m. The meeting will introduce coaches, review team rules and to introduce new players and parents to the system.
GOLF Bella Vista Women’s 9-Hole Golf Invitational The Bella Vista’s Women’s 9-Hole Golf Association Invitational Golf Tournament will be held on Monday, Sept. 10, at the Berksdale Golf Course. The tournament is a four-person scramble.
Registration and continental breakfast at 8 a. m. at the Berksdale club house, with a shotgun start at 9 a. m.
Immediately following golf, lunch will be served at Riordan Hall.
The cost for Bella Vista members with activity cards is $ 30. The cost for guests is $ 35. This includes green fees, carts, breakfast, and lunch.
Cash prizes for team and individual winners plus door prizes will be awarded at the luncheon. Individual prizes in four flights, include closest to the pin, closest to the line off the tee box, longest putt and longest drive.
Entry forms can be picked up at Bella Vista Pro Shops. For reservation, send a check or money order, payable to Bella Vista Women’s 9-Hole Golf Association, to Sue Williams, 58 Elizabeth Drive, Bella Vista 72714.

The Bella Vista Women’s 18-Hole Golf Assocation is accepting membership applications for the remainder of the 2007 golf season at a reduced rate of $ 25. There is an additional $ 5 handicap fee if not in the system yet.

The Bella Vista Women’s Golf Association invites all women that have an 18-hole handicap to participate in the 29 th annual Northwest Arkansas Invitational Golf Tournament. The tournament will be held Thursday, Sept. 6, at the Kingswood Golf Course. The two-lady scramble will be preflighted off the lowest handicap of the twosome. The field is limited to a maximum of 72 teams.
Registration and snacks begin at 8 a. m. with a 9 a. m. shotgun start. Entry fee is $ 37. 50 per person for BVWGC 18 / 9 Hole members and $ 47. 50 per person for non-BVWGC 18 / 9 members. Entry includes am snack, golf, cart, Pro Drive, Hole-In-One, Save-A-Putts, door prizes, awards and lunch.

Friends of the Highlands Mr. Mulligan’s Scramble will be played Sept. 9 at the Highlands Golf Course in Bella Vista. Check-in starting at 12: 30 p. m. with a 1: 30 shotgun start.
Money raised will benefit the Bella Vista Library. Teams of two couples will be flighted after play. Closest to pin for men and women on two holes will also be awarded. Mulligans limited to 4 per team.
Cost will be $ 45 per couple which includes dinner at the Highlands Clubhouse after play. This tournament will be limited to the first 36 teams.
Green fees and carts not included in cost. Entry forms will be at all Bella Vista Pro shops and at the Library.

The Arkansas Women’s Golf Association (AWGA ) 2007 Designated Tournament will be held Aug. 25-26 at Highlands Golf Course in Bella Vista. The two-day, preflighted event is a low gross / low net game with 50 percent of the field being paid. Gross scores and net scores are totaled for the two days.
Participants who declare Championship Flight will be playing from 5, 800 yards and competing for State Player of the Year along with Fore States Cup Team points. All other flights play from the forward tees and do not compete for state points.
Proceeds from the two-day tournament are used to fund junior girl’s state tournaments sponsored by the Arkansas Women’s Golf Association.
Forms for the AWGA Bella Vista Designated Tournament will be available at the Firecracker Scramble and in all the Bella Vista Pro Shops. The entry deadline for the AWGA Designated Tournament is Aug. 17.

The Hi-Scots Women’s Golf Group is seeking to expand its membership this year. The group plays nine holes every Wednesday year-round at various courses throughout Bella Vista, with the regular season running April through October, and the winter season November through March.
All women golfers who have had some experience playing golf, are familiar with golf rules and etiquette and are interested in making new friends are welcome to join the group.

The inaugural Rogers Youth Baseball Golf Tournament will be held Friday, Aug. 17, at Lost Springs Golf & Athletic Club in Rogers. Shotgun starts will begin play at 8 a. m. and 1 p. m. Entry fee for the four-person scramble is $ 300 per team, which includes green fees, beverages, breakfast and lunch. Prizes will be awarded for Hole-In-One, longest drive and closest to the pin. MARTIAL ARTS Classes forming Martial arts classes now enrolling in Bentonville. Classes are now forming for four age groups. The Lil ’ Dragons karate program for 3- & 4-year-olds focuses on motor skills, self-control, balance, and memory. The Kinder karate program for 5- & 6-yearolds develops self defense, balance, coordination, attention span, and motor skills. The Youth karate program for 7- to 13-year-olds also develops discipline, responsibility, and better grades in school. The Adult karate program also is a source of fitness and stress relief. SHUFFLEBOARD Shuffleboard play sessions The recreation division of Bella Vista Village has scheduled a series of shuffleboard play sessions for POA members. These sessions will be for adults over the age of 17 and will be held each Monday evening this summer at Metfield Park from 6-8 p. m. This will be casual play on the two refurbished courts just north of the swimming pool near the miniature golf course. If there is enough interest a tournament will be scheduled in September. SOCCER Academy Soccer Ingram Comets Futbol Club has an Academy Program in Centerton for the U 8, U 9 and U 10 age groups. The Academies are designed to help players develop a fundamental skill set under the direction of experienced coaches. They will also have a combined session with a trainer, plus additional training and games, with the help of a parent / coach, on the weekends. Cost is $ 225 for the year.
