BENTONVILLE - A once-ina-lifetime opportunity is available to Bentonville residents on Thursday from noon until 8 p.m. at the Skia Store. People are invited to stop by and write by hand one verse in the Bible. The entire handwritten Bible containing verses contributed by 31,173 individuals will be reproduced and published by Zondervan, the world's leading Bible publisher.

A cross-country promotional tour to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the New International Version of the Bible, was started on Sept. 30, 2008. It began in Grand Rapids, Mich., Zondervan's headquarters and will conclude on Feb. 12 in San Diego, Calif., at the National Pastor's Convention. The crosscountry tour will stop at John Brown University's Rogers Center in Siloam Springs the day before it stops in Bentonville.

The NIV is the most popular modern English Bible translation, and has more than 300 million copies in print worldwide. Skia is the Greek word for shadow, referred to in the Bible with the glory of God. Bill and Tina Beyer are owners of the non-traditional Christian bookstore. Along with Bibles, other books, music and Christian apparel; Skia also has a popular coffee shop.

"Zondervan, the publisher, contacted us," Bill Beyer explained. "They thought we might be interested in participating as one of their stops. Of course, we are happy to be part of it. It's a great way to get Christians involved and they can be part of history. We hope to see a lot of people while the tour bus is stopped here."

In addition to impromptu stops, the 42-foot motor home, donated by Spartan Motors, will make 100 stops in 90 cities. The estimated mileage covered will be 15,036 miles.
