ROGERS - Hot.

Fresh.

Now.

When the neon sign outside of Krispy Kreme is glowing a soft red, it is prime doughnut-eating time. At 11 a.m. Saturday, the doughnuts will be hot, fresh and ready to eat - at Pig Trail Harley-Davidson in Rogers.

The motorcycle dealership is hosting its first doughnut-eating contest for anyone who wants to enter. The rules are simple. Contestants will have 60 seconds to eat as many Krispy Kreme doughnuts as possible. The winner will be crowned doughnut champion and walk away with a $500 Harley-Davidson gift certificate, said Buck Blanchard, marketing manager for Pig Trail.

"We do a lot of lifestyle events at the dealership. We just like to entertain our customers," Blanchard said.

Another benefit of the competition: It may help to drive sales during a slow time of year for Pig Trail.

"We are just thinking outside of the box and trying to generate some business right now because this is typically our slow period," Blanchard said.

That, and "bikers like to eat, so why not have a doughnut-eating contest?" Blanchard said.

The dealership is hoping to have at least 10 eaters join the competition. If the store's customers like it, there is a possibility of having another eating contest at Pig Trail, according to Blanchard.

With no preregistration to worry about, all potential contestants will need to do is show up with an appetite on Saturday. The contest will begin at 11 a.m.

Following the competition, Pig Trail will have free soup and sandwiches, as well as doughnuts, from noon until 2 p.m.
