BENTONVILLE — Banking on the adage that everyone loves a parade, new organizations and businesses typically join the Bentonville Winter Wonderland Parade to make their presence known.

As part of approximately 80 entries in this year’s parade, scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday in downtown Bentonville, the YMCA of Northwest Arkansas Lacrosse organization is ready to show off.

“ We’ve only been an organization for a year and a half, and the reason we have joined the parade is to generate awareness that we are here, ” said Kristen Black, a member of the board of directors for the lacrosse organization — the only lacrosse organization in the state.

Several of the players will be on the float in lacrosse gear to help demonstrate what the sport is about.

A number of other organizations will make their premieres at the parade this year, including the city’s community development department, which will portray the theme “ Elf on a Shelf. ”

The Winter Wonderland Parade will start at the intersection of South Main and Eighth streets, head north on Main Street, go around the Square and head west on North Second Street toward Old High Middle School.

Street parking will be closed off around the Square, as well as on sections of Main Street and North Second Street during the parade. The review stand will be placed in front of the Benton County Courthouse, and bleachers will be placed on East Central Avenue and Northeast Second Street on the Square.

But there are more activities planned from 1 p. m. to 3 p. m. on the Square — including a special visit from Old St. Nick. Santa will be available at School Squared for photos and last-minute wish lists.

Mrs. Claus will read to kids at Java on the Square, and kids can also ride ponies and camels, and folks can grab lunch at a number of downtown restaurants.
