BENTONVILLE — The Bentonville City Council is anticipated to approve a $ 92 million budget at its meeting Tuesday.

The city has budgeted no merit raises for city employees, but has budgeted a 5. 8-percent cost-of-living increase in accordance with the U. S. Social Security Administration’s COLA for 2009. Mayor Bob McCaslin recommends no new positions “ due to the uncertainty of sales-tax projections, ” he wrote in the 2009 budget cover letter.

If revenues exceed expectations, McCaslin will recommend hiring personnel that had previously been recommended as additions this year.

In addition, the city proposes hiring the Bentonville-Bella Vista Chamber of Commerce on a contract basis to provide economic-development projects and reports to the city on a regular basis. The cost of the chamber contract would be $ 100, 000 per year, and as a recipient of taxpayer dollars, the chamber will be subject to the Freedom of Information Act.

The meeting will be held at 6 p. m. Tuesday at the Council Chambers, 305 S. W. A St.

The council will also take action on the following items:

A lot split for property on Northeast A Street, requested by Cindy Springs LLC;

Appointment of Brad Crain to fill the vacant position on the Advertising and Promotion Commission previously held by Rod Sanders;

A change order for the Downtown Square Enhancement project;

Accept donated radio equipment from Cox Communications for the fire department;

Approval of a resolution declaring one concession trailer as surplus to be sold at public auction; and

A waiver of a bid to HD Supply Waterworks LTD for water meters.
