BENTONVILLE — David Allen got 2, 003 votes to Mike Kenney’s 1, 997 in a recount of the votes in the Siloam Springs mayoral race.

Requested by Kenney, the recount was conducted by the Benton County Election Commission on Monday afternoon at the Election Commission Office in Bentonville.

Allen led by 10 votes after the returns were counted Nov. 4 — he had 2, 000 votes to Kenney’s 1, 990 after that count.

Both Allen and Kenny were present at the Election Commission Office for the recount Monday, said John M. Brown Jr., county Election Commission chairman.

The Election Commission put in a procedure in 2006 to audit results in close elections and used it for this one, Brown said.

“ We audited and came up (with ) a 10-vote difference. The totals agreed. But when we reran them through the machines, one of the candidates, Mr. Kenney, wanted to count ballots. The machines didn’t agree, so we had to hand count. We started counting about 3: 15 (p. m. ), and we probably got through about 5: 15 (p. m. ), ” Brown said Monday.

Both candidates appeared to be satisfied with the outcome, the commission chairman said.

“ Mr. Kenney congratulated Mr. Allen on winning, and both of them were gentlemen, ” Brown said. “ Both of them were real gentlemen. ”
