BENTON COUNTY — The Avoca Fire and Rescue Department celebrated the retirement of Capt. Tony Miltich with a dinner at the station on Sunday.
Miltich volunteered with the Lake Wedington Fire Department in Washington County. After three years with that department, Miltich and his wife, Suzanne, moved to Beaver Lake, where he joined the Avoca Fire Department.
In the 11 years Miltich was with the Avoca Fire Department, his administrative experience was invaluable, according to a department news release. He brought departmental records and accounting into the computer age, and he was instrumental in updating departmental policies and the board of directors. Miltich was also a part of getting voters to approve membership dues, which will finance departmental improvements that will result in lower insurance rates for homeowners. Miltich is president of the department’s board of directors, where he will continue to serve.
Also during the retirement dinner, Chief Frankie Elliott and Lt. Larry Hockenberry were recognized for 20 years of service each with the Fire Department.
