BENTONVILLE — A Rogers man pleaded not guilty to charges in connection with a July 27 fatality.
Jed Neet, 21, is charged with negligent homicide, a class C felony punishable with a prison sentence ranging from three to 10 years. He is also charged with misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled or counterfeit substance and driving left of center.
An omnibus hearing in the case is scheduled for 8: 30 a. m. Nov. 13.
Neet, in a 2004 Mitsubishi Montero, was headed west in the eastbound lanes on U. S. Highway 412 just west of Schoolhouse Road in Benton County when his vehicle struck a 1992 Honda Accord driven by Arrue B. Guzman, 28, of Springdale, according to court documents. The impact was head-on in the outside eastbound traffic lane.
Guzman was pronounced dead after being taken to Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville.
According to an affidavit of probable cause in the case, Neet told Arkansas State Police Cpl. W. K. Trevathan that he was coming from a Fayetteville bar, where he had drunk seven or eight beers. Trevathan talked with Neet at Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital, where Neet was taken after the accident, court documents state.
Neet was later taken to the Benton County Jail, where he agreed to take a Breathalyzer test. The first test registered 0. 099 percent blood alcohol. A second test, which Neet requested, registered 0. 097, according to court documents.
Neet was released from the Benton County Jail after posting $ 75, 000 bond.
