ROGERS — Some or all. Don Spann will present those two options Tuesday at a 6 p. m. Committee of the Whole meeting. The architect and planning commissioner will present pros and cons and costs of replacing some or all of the troubled Rogers Fire Station No. 5.

Leaks in the roof led to the buildup of water in the walls, then rust and mold. The City Council must fix the fire station, but first must decide how it wants to do that.

Spann told the councilors on Aug. 29 that it would cost about $ 1 million to tear down and replace the damaged areas. It would cost about $ 1. 5 million to demolish the entire building and start from scratch, replacing the still-usable bay area but fixing drainage problems. He said last week that he would bring updated estimates to the committee meeting.

Later that night, the council must choose, voting on the options during the 7: 30 council meeting.

There appeared to be some differences of opinion during the Aug. 29 Committee of the Whole meeting at the station. Councilman Buddy Wright initially supported a complete rebuild, but Mayor Steve Womack said the additional cost was too great.

At Tuesday’s meeting, the council is also scheduled to discuss the following:

A request from ANH Montessori School for sewer service at 2730 Woods Lane outside the city limits;

A resolution authorizing a contract with Crafton, Tull Sparks and Associates to design a portion of the trail system from the north side of New Hope Road to the west side of Horsebarn Road; and

A resolution accepting a right-of-way donation from North Allis, LLC.
