BENTON COUNTY — The Governor’s Award to honor Arkansas’ top 4-H’er went to Amanda Simpson of Cave Springs.

The award, the highest honor a 4-H’er can receive, was presented at the 62 nd annual Arkansas 4-H Awards of Excellence Banquet held during the Arkansas 4-H O’Rama. She received a silver tray and a $ 1, 000 scholarship.

Simpson was one of three finalists in the running. The others were Jeff Ferguson of Jefferson County and Chris Hunt from Greene County. The three participated in interviews and a luncheon at the governor’s mansion in Little Rock.

Simpson took the top honor because of her continual dedication to the 4-H program even after winning state honors in her photography project and being inducted into the Arkansas Hall of Fame in 2006.
