Buddy Walk held for Down syndrome to feature concert

SPRINGDALE - Stacy Reed, vice president of the Down Syndrome Connection of Northwest Arkansas, said the annual Buddy Walk is being held early this year.
"We usually hold our fundraiser in October in conjunction with Down Syndrome Awareness Month," Reed said; "however, this year we had to move it to September."
The fourth annual Buddy Walk fundraiser is an event held to promote acceptance, awareness and inclusion for people with Down syndrome.
Registration is at 1 p.m. Sept. 13, and there's no registration fee. The walk will begin at 2 p.m. Chris Burke will give a concert at 3 p.m. at Helen Tyson Middle School, 3304 S. 40 th St. in Springdale. A family afternoon filled with free hot dogs, activities for children and free entertainment is planned.
Burke has Down syndrome. He may be best known as the star of the television show," Life Goes On. "Burke also appeared many times on "Touched by an Angel. "A popular motivational speaker, Burke is a writer and a musician. His concert will feature his threepiece band with twins Joe and John deMasi. The twins were Burke's counselors at a camp for disabled children.
