Quorum Court to meet Thursday

BENTONVILLE - The Benton County Quorum Court will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Benton County Administration Building, where the court will once again discuss a proposed resolution to confirm Mark Curtis to the Benton County Planning Board for a fouryear term.
Curtis' pending appointment was met with a great deal of opposition when placed on the Quorum Court's agenda in July.
Among those in attendance at the July meeting was Don Day of Rogers, who recommended to the court that it reconsider applicants to the Planning Board, such as Gary Finnegan of Rogers, rather than appointing Curtis.
Bob Cossey of Rogers also voiced his disappointment in Judge Gary Black's recommendation to appoint Curtis.
"(Curtis ) has always been pleasurable and amicable, but he is a polarizing figure," Cossey said. "Curtis has shown he has his own unbendable will when it comes to the Beaver Lake Water District."
Other residents spoke on Curtis' behalf, suggesting that placing Curtis on the Planning Board would be beneficial to Beaver Lake and to the county as a whole.
"Mr. Curtis, indeed, in the line I have dealt with him, deals with facts and information and does not exaggerate things," James Gately of Rogers said. "He understands that growth has to be planned."
The proposed resolution to appoint Curtis to the Planning Board in July failed in a 6-5 vote.
The Quorum Court will also discuss and vote on the proposed boundaries and annual dues of the Pea Ridge and Highfill volunteer fire departments, as well as the Benton County Employment Policy manual.
