Magley
SILOAM SPRINGS - Clarissa Magley already gets to ride horses once a week when she takes riding lessons. An upcoming trip to a Montana dude ranch will give her the chance to ride every day.
The Siloam Springs seventh-grader was one of 12 winners of a dude ranch vacation given by the Children's International Arts Festival, sponsored by www. KidsTalk-AboutGod. com. Her parents and brother will join her on the trip to Sweet Grass Ranch in Big Timber, Mont. She said the aspect of the trip she most anticipates is being able to ride horses.
"I'm going to ride - lots and lots of riding," she said. "I take riding lessons once a week, and it will be fun to do it every day."
She's also looking forward to sights along the trip, as the family will drive to the dude ranch.
"We'll get to go through Wyoming," she said. "I've never been there, and now I'm going to get to see it."
Magley won the trip for her interpretation of the question posed by the Web site: "Why does the Bible call Jesus'the Word' ? "The reference to Jesus Christ as "the Word"can be found in the book of John, chapter 1, according to information from the organization.
Magley used watercolors to paint her thoughts on the subject; then she submitted a written answer to explain her work. Her painting was of Jesus creating the world, she said. A picture of the painting is available at www. KidsTalk-AboutGod. com / clarissa.
This was not the first time Magley has been honored for her artistic talent, nor is it the first time her work has been made public. In 2007, she won the Northwest Arkansas Aquatics logo contest, and her design is now on the swimming team's T-shirts. She is a member of that team, she said. Magley has also authored and illustrated three books. Her latest book," Tumi," is available on Lulu. com. The homeschooled student is also fluent in Italian.
Her parents are Rick and Lidia Magley. Rick is a graphic designer for Dayspring Cards, a subsidiary of Hallmark Cards. Lidia has been an independent sales director for The Pampered Chef for 10 years.
