BELLA VISTA - A Texas man has been arrested after police said he tried to pass bogus money at a local convenience store.

At 11: 50 p.m. Monday, Nicole Landingham, a clerk at the All In One convenience off Dartmoor Road, called police about a man who had tried to use a counterfeit $ 10 bill for payment, according to a Bella Vista Police Department report.

Police arrived and, after checking into the situation, arrested Brandon Gurley, 20, of Texas. He was charged with first-degree forgery, a felony, the report states. He was booked into the Benton County Jail.

Charlene Chase, who also works at the store, said Landingham wrote in a note for all the employees after the incident that the bill didn't look or feel right.

Chase said a good reason for employees to determine good currency from bad is if the store accepts a forged bill, the business gets stuck with it.

"You just have to take a loss."

Two other men found with Gurley - Samuel Mason Rial, 19, of Oklahoma, and Patrick Smith, 28, of Arkansas - were wanted on Fayetteville Police Department warrants for failure to appear, Bella Vista police detective Barb Shrum said. BVPD officers took the two men to Fayetteville, where they were booked into jail.
