Pursell monitored accounts payable and pulled money from registers to be deposited for the furniture store, where he worked from Jan. 13, 2003, until Feb. 14, 2006, according to a probablecause affidavit in the case.
Store owner Michael Tucker told police he confronted Pursell about the stolen money. Pursell did not deny taking the money but replied that he couldn't have taken that much money, according to court documents. Pursell also attempted to make an agreement to repay the business in monthly installments. He also offered Tucker $ 50, 000 to make the case go away, court documents state.
Clinger sentenced Pursell to 12 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction.
BENTONVILLE - A Fayetteville man was sentenced Monday to 12 years in prison for stealing thousands of dollars from his employer.
Randy James Pursell, 39, pleaded guilty in March to theft of property, a class B felony punishable with a prison sentence ranging from five to 20 years. He pleaded guilty under a plea arrangement that his attorney, Joel Huggins, reached with Deputy Prosecutor Carrie Dobbs.
Circuit Judge David Clinger took the plea under advisement in March and sentenced Pursell on Monday.
Pursell was accused of stealing slightly more than $ 80, 000 from Tucker Furniture and Appliance in Rogers. After his release, Pursell must abide by a suspended-sentence agreement for eight years.
Pursell received 119 days of jail credit for the time he spent in custody awaiting trial.
He must also pay $ 1, 420 in court-associated costs, $ 50, 000 in victim restitution and $ 2, 228. 70 in a hot-check case.
Pursell was ordered to pay $ 50, 000 because it is the amount prosecutors could prove was stolen from the business, Dobbs said.
