CENTERTON — The fastgrowing city of Centerton is a city of the first class and will be making it official early next year, Mayor Bobbie Griffith said.
The city of Centerton has had the required 5, 000 or more inhabitants to make it a first-class city for some time and will officially become a first-class city on Jan. 1, 2009. A 2005 special census found Centerton had a population of 5, 621 residents, and the city now has 7, 000 people or more, Griffith said recently.
The official change in status for the city will be accompanied by some changes in procedure, Griffith said.
The city’s current position of city recorder-treasurer will become a city clerk-treasurer position, and at least one of the city’s attorneys will be elected, the mayor said.
