BENTON COUNTY - Nationwide closings of Starbucks stores have hit Benton County - with one store closing at the end of the month and others on the way.

Starbucks' corporate Web site has named the Starbucks location in Lowell, at 105 S. Dixieland Road, as one of two stores in the state that will be closed by the end of the month.

More closures are ahead - including the store at 3351 Pinnacle Hills Parkway, which will be closing at an undetermined time, store manager Jason McGuire said.

On July 1, Starbucks announced it would close approximately 600 companyoperated stores in the United States, beginning in July and continuing throughout the first half of 2009.

Starbucks stated that the highest percentage of store closings are stores that opened in 2006 or later and were deemed to be underperforming stores, according to a statement from Starbucks.

"Much thought and consideration were given to each location because we know the impact this has on our dedicated partners, customers and the communities we operate, " according to a Starbucks news release.

The company plans to list upcoming store closures each month on its Web site, www. starbucks. com. "We will be as transparent as possible, and each month, after closure dates have been communicated to all affected partners, we will post a list of the stores that are scheduled to close during that month," the release states.
