BENTONVILLE - Bill Williams, the Democratic candidate for Benton County judge, will speak on "The Increasing Importance of County Government."

He will address the Benton County Democratic Women's Club at the group's next meeting, which begins at 11: 30 a.m. July 28 at the Clarion Hotel and Convention Center in Bentonville.

Williams considers himself a native, having spent more than 60 years here. His father served the state for 50 years, most of that time as state geologist.

Williams graduated from Hall High School in Little Rock and joined the U. S. Marine Corps, where he was assigned to Japan, to Vietnam and to the United States as a photographer.

Returning to Arkansas, he worked as a photographer for the Arkansas Gazette and the Arkansas Democrat.

Williams got involved in radio and TV broadcasting and became the public information officer for the city of Little Rock's Model Cities Project.

Then he joined the Little Rock Police Department.

His interest in county government was heightened even more when Beverly was appointed by Gov. Mike Beebe to complete a term as justice of the peace for District 10 until 2009.

This meeting is open to the public, and the buffet lunch is available for $ 10.
