Former police chief to stand trial for theft

BENTONVILLE — Andrew Little once fed accused criminals into the court system. Now, he will stand before it.
The former Sulphur Springs police chief is scheduled to face trial Oct. 7 for the alleged theft of his stepfather’s weapons.
Little was arrested April 22 for the theft and released on a felony citation. He was terminated from his position by Sulphur Springs Mayor Quinton Hoffer the next day.
According to a probablecause affidavit in the case, Little took guns owned by his stepfather, Richard Cummins, and pawned them at Pawn U. S. A. in Centerton and Big Brothers Pawn in Bentonville, where police recovered the guns.
Little told Cummins that his guns were stolen and then recovered, but they were not yet retrievable from the police departments that were holding them — one such conversation being caught on tape — according to court documents. Little later confessed to having one of his officers take the guns to the pawn shops. Little and the officer said Little did not tell the officer the guns were stolen. The officer is not being charged with a crime.
Before the trial, Little is scheduled for an omnibus hearing before Circuit Judge Tom Keith.
Little faces five to 20 years in prison for the class B felony.
