BENTONVILLE — Although there is room for several more children, the Bentonville-Rogers Junior Cotillion 2008 season is filling up quickly.

Directed by Renee Swindell, the mission of the Cotillion is to improve the self-esteem, self-confidence and social skills of the boys and girls participating.

“ I was involved with the Junior Cotillion in Little Rock for years, ” Swindell said. “ I loved attending as a student and had perfect attendance over four years. I’m excited to offer the Junior Cotillion in Benton County. Students from places throughout the area have signed up to attend, and I’m looking forward to the inaugural season of the Bentonville-Rogers Junior Cotillion. ”

Swindell has led dance workshops for several cotillions, is a former member of the Southern Association of Dance Masters and was a dance instructor at the Little Rock School of Dance for nine years. She was also the director and owner of Paris Dance Arts in Paris, Ark., for two years. A resident of Bentonville with her husband and daughter, Swindell said she’s been delighted by the reception the Junior Cotillion has received.

The season consists of dances held on certain Saturday evenings from Sept. 6 though Nov. 22. Classes will meet at the Boys and Girls Club of Benton County, 2801 N. Walker in Bentonville. The sixth-grade class meets from 5 p. m. to 6: 15 p. m. The seventh-grade class meets from 6: 30 p. m. to 7: 45 p. m., and the eight- and ninth-grade classes meet from 8 p. m. to 9: 15 p. m. There are a total of seven dances for all participants, including the final dance, the Holly Ball. All parents are invited to attend the Holly Ball.

Attire for the dances will vary. Most of the dances are semiformal and call for coats and ties and dress shoes for boys and dressy dresses, hosiery, dress shoes and white gloves for girls. The 2008 season will include one casual night and one “ Back to the ’ 70 s” costume night. Invitations sent to Cotillion students will have more specific information about attire.

A reception for parents is scheduled for August. The program will be discussed, and one or both parents are invited to attend. Morning or evening sessions are available. The dates and times of the receptions will be sent in July when the invitations are mailed.

Applications are being accepted now for the 2008 season. Tuition is $ 175 per student with a $ 25 nonrefundable deposit due with each application. The deposit is applied toward the total tuition. The remaining portion of tuition is due one week after receipt of the invitation.
