BELLA VISTA - Bella Vista police are looking for a vehicle and driver that struck a cyclist on U. S. Highway 71 North at exit 98 around lunchtime Wednesday and didn't stop, according to a press release from the Bella Vista Police Department.

A 55-year-old man was riding his bicycle north on the highway when he was struck by a maroon minivan pulling a small black single-axle trailer, the report said. Emergency personnel from the Bella Vista Ambulance Service stabilized the cyclist and took him to Mercy Medical Center in Rogers, according to police. His condition is not yet known.

Officials said they haven't released the victim's name because his family members still needed to be notified.

Witnesses described the driver of the minivan as a white man in his late 60 s, well-groomed and wearing a purple shirt, the release states.

Police said the vehicle was damaged in the impact and will have a broken front passenger turn-signal lens, will be missing a passenger-side mirror assembly and will have paint scrapes on the front passenger side.

Anyone who has information about the identity of the driver or knows the location of the vehicle is asked to call the Bella Vista Police Department at 855-3771.
