Wal-Mart presents $47K in scholarships

FAYETTEVILLE — Wal-Mart stores and Sam’s Clubs in the Fayetteville area are helping 47 local high school seniors pay for college by presenting them with $ 1, 000 Sam Walton Community Scholarships. Every store and club in the country will present two of the scholarships, for a total of nearly $ 8 million nationwide this spring. The scholarship program is one of three that the Wal-Mart Foundation provides annually to help with college expenses for associates, as well as the general community.
The 47 area students will be honored at an event at 11 a. m. today at the Wal-Mart Supercenter at 3919 N. Mall Ave. in Fayetteville.
The following students in the Fayetteville area will receive the scholarships:
• Bentonville High School: Esther Cabrera, Brittany Compton, Kiara Goodwin, Austin Naeger, Michael Carter, Alice Haney and Ethan Lantz.
• Farmington, Haas Hall Academy: Shelby Phipps.
• Fayetteville High School: Brittany Miller-Holloway, Alison Richardson, Nicholas Rodriguez, Lauren Johnson, Bilal Ziada, Dave Orellana, Justina Arriaza and Lesley Waterson.
• Fayetteville Home School: Staci Ashcraft, Rachael Rheingans and Timothy Hicks.
• Gravette High School: David Poemoceah.
• Greenland High School: Bartt Foster.
• Kingston High School: Opal Dennis and Taylor Bowen.
• Lincoln High School: Emma Foster and Linda Thao.
• Pea Ridge High School: Morgan Stellpflug.
• Rogers Afnorth International High School: Jordan Mccleland,
• Rogers High School: Scotie Hulett, Derek Sherry, Kelly English, Haley Prowell, Charley Jenkins, Amber Johnson, Tyler Avery and April Johnson.
• Kansas (Okla. ) High School: Samuel Christie and Stasha Harp.
• Siloam Springs High School: Amanda Motz and Bethany Garcia.
• Springdale Har-Ber High School: Cole Basinger, Mary Joseph, Rachel Smith and Bonninda Capwell.
• Shiloh Christian School: Rebekah Williams, Matthew Gerlt and Heather Wright.
• Springdale High School: Meredith Findley.
