LOWELL — Police apprehended a suspect in the Sunday morning stabbing death of Mark Hollis, 50, and the suspect has a knife wound of his own.
A 911 call at 3: 47 a. m. Sunday alerted police to the stabbing at Hollis’ home at 416 Homewood St. The caller said the suspect fled on foot. A Bethel Heights officer found the suspect with his girlfriend at 4: 08 a. m. at the intersection of Summerset and McClure, about three blocks from Hollis’ home, Police Chief Joe Landers said.
Police interviewed all five witnesses who were at the home. Three remained at the home until officers arrived.
The Lowell Police Department has not yet named the suspect, has made no arrests and has filed no charges in the case. The suspect has been released, Landers said.
“ After everybody was interviewed, we just didn’t have enough to charge him, at least not yet, ” Landers said.
He would not say why the interviews did not lead to an arrest.
Landers did release information Monday indicating the suspect apprehended Sunday suffered injuries, including a knife wound.
Police have not released many details about the events surrounding Hollis’ death, but they believe Hollis and his wife met the suspect and his girlfriend at a party earlier in the evening at a private residence, Landers said.
The two couples, along with a third, met again after the party at Hollis’ home, where an argument began, officers said. The two men fought, and Hollis received a fatal stab wound.
Police did not say when or how the suspect’s wounds occurred. Landers said his wounds were not life-threatening, and the suspect refused medical treatment.
Landers declined to reveal any information about the knife that was used in Hollis’ stabbing, including whether police had located the weapon.
Hollis was pronounced dead at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale. His body has been sent to the medical examiner for an autopsy.
According to Landers’ news release, the investigation into Hollis’ death is continuing.
