SPRINGDALE - Academy Day 2008 will be held at Har-Ber High School from 1: 30 p.m. to 3: 30 p.m. Saturday, staffers for U. S. Rep. John Boozman, R-Ark., announced.
The school is at 300 Jones Road in Springdale.
Academy Night is for students and their parents interested in information about U. S. service academy opportunities, said Kathryn Gough, Boozman's outreach and field representative.
On hand to share information with interested students and parents will be representatives from the U. S. Military Academy in West Point, N. Y., the U. S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., the U. S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., the Coast Guard Academy in New London Conn. and the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N. Y.
Nominations are required for admittance into all academies except the U. S. Coast Guard Academy. Appointments for the Coast Guard Academy are made on the basis of an annual nationwide competition.
To be considered for an appointment to a service academy, an applicant must meet the eligibility requirements established by law and be nominated by an authorized person, including a U. S. senator or U. S representative.
The congressman may only nominate applicants who live within the boundaries of the 3 rd District of Arkansas.
Earlier that day, beginning at 9 a. m., Boozman will serve as host for a similar event at Southside High School in Fort Smith.
