ROGERS — An April 19 event, Environmental Day, will feature environment-friendly groups, environment-friendly products, experts on water quality and other things, Jim Gately said.

Gately is a longtime member of the Association for Beaver Lake Environment. Earlier this year, he was named chairman of the recently formed Multi-Basin Regional Water Council.

Gately said he alerted people to the Environmental Day and other environmentrelated events at a recent meeting of the new council, which was formed to tackle water-related issues.

Environmental Day will be from 9 a. m. to 1 p. m. April 19 in Frisco Park in downtown Rogers, a Main Street Rogers Web site states.

The event will feature tips on organic gardening and information on which consumer products should not be thrown away, according to the Web site.

At the event, there will also be information and items — everything from water-saving plumbing fixtures and a barbecue fueled by recycled sawdust to LED lights and air filters — aimed at helping people improve their lifestyles while they reduce home energy costs, the Web site states. There will also be speakers who will talk about water quality issues.

ABLE will participate in the event, as will many other entities, Gately said.

“ They’re going to … encourage people to (have exhibits ) — in particular, even businesses that have more environmentally friendly systems that people can choose from, ” Gately said. “ We (ABLE ) are just participating in it to try to educate people about the water quality. ”

The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality will have a kid-friendly exhibit, he said.
