BENTONVILLE - Wintry weather in December dictated postponement of Tux on the Run, the annual 5 K Run and 1-mile Family Fun Run / Walk to benefit the YMCA of Northwest Arkansas.

Originally scheduled for December, Tux on the Run will be held Saturday on the Bentonville Square. It all begins at 9: 30 a. m., with registration and a costume contest for participants. The top three costumes will receive $ 25 gift cards to local retailers.

Registration is $ 20 and includes an official race T-shirt.

Proceeds will benefit the YMCA of Northwest Arkansas, which is trying to raise $ 600, 000 for its founders' campaign. YMCA President Chris Sooter said the YMCA has raised $ 200, 000 toward the campaign, which will fund hiring a director and developing and implementing programs and services in the area.

If the Y receives more than $ 600, 000 in contributions, remaining funds will go toward the building campaign.

The Y is also seeking a taxdeductible donation of office space in a visible location in the area, Sooter said.
