BENTONVILLE - A Rogers woman faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted of causing the accident that left another motorist dead.
Anne Elizabeth Archer, 26, is charged with negligent homicide, a class C felony, which is punishable with a prison sentence ranging from three to 10 years. She was scheduled to appear Monday morning before Circuit Judge David Clinger for her arraignment, but instead, her attorney entered the not guilty plea through paperwork.
Archer is accused of negligently causing the Feb. 17, 2007, death of Eric Morales as a result of operating a motor vehicle at a time when she was intoxicated, according to court documents.
Reports state that at 6: 06 a.m. Feb. 17, Morales, 30, was driving a 1998 Ford Escort west on Southeast 14 th Street, and Archer was driving east in a 2006 Suzuki, when her car crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with the Escort, court documents state. Morales was pronounced dead at the scene. Archer was injured in the crash.
A blood sample was taken from Archer at Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville, according to court documents. Analysis by the Arkansas Crime Laboratory showed that several medications were in her blood sample, and some of the drugs may have affected her balance, according to court documents.
One of Archer's friends told police he warned Archer not to drive that morning because she was taking cough medication and appeared to be impaired, court documents state.
An omnibus hearing in the case is scheduled for Nov. 29.
Archer was released from custody on citation following her arrest.
