Free fishing derbies on June 2

Rogers Parks and Recreation, the Rogers Optimist Club and Bentonville Parks and Recreation will host free fishing derbies for children from 8 a. m. to 11 a. m. June 2. The Rogers derby will be at Veterans Park, and the Bentonville derby will be at Lake Bentonville.
The derbies are open to anglers age 16 and under. In addition to free fishing, the derbies will feature the Zebco Kids Casting Carnival and the Fujifilm Big Catfish Contest, for which trophies will be awarded to anglers who catch the three biggest catfish and the single smallest catfish. Fujifilm will give disposable cameras to the first 50 children who catch a catfish.
At check-in at 7: 30 a. m., anglers will receive bait and goodie bags. Participants are asked to bring their own fishing gear. Free hot dogs and drinks will be served at the conclusion of fishing.
