Sen. Hillary Clinton to speak in area

ROGERS - Democrats, including U. S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N. Y., will be gathering here in Benton County next weekend for the 2006 Arkansas Federation of Democratic Women State Convention.
The convention begins July 14 and continues July 15.
Tickets are still available to hear Clinton, the keynote speaker for the convention. She will speak on July 15, AFDW President Renee Bullock announced Friday.
People who wish to attend should call Bullock at (501 ) 633-1775 for reservations by Monday.
There will be no registration at the convention. All attendees must be pre-registered.
All non-members who wish to attend the luncheon to hear Senator Clinton must have reserved seats by calling Bullock. Those seats are $ 100.
Features at the convention will include a collection of library books for children. Democrats have been working to help the child victims of hurricanes as well as those of needy families, in this country and internationally. Attendees will bring books to further the effort.
Also at the convention, some Democratic Women will be recognized as making a difference in their communities throughout the state.
The election of officers for 2006-2008 is also on the convention's agenda.
The local Democratic Women's club, the Democratic Women's Club of Benton County, will welcome Democrats from around the state to the biennial convention. Committees have been working several months preparing for the convention, club member Barbara McCoy said.
Local people who wish to join the Democratic Women's Club may call Henrietta Horoda, club treasurer, at (479 ) 631-1997. Members may attend the convention by preregistering.
Local Democrats will be giving guided tours of the area as well as providing assistance at the Friday evening and Saturday activities, McCoy said.
