Drug, theft arrests made on Bentonville Square

BENTONVILLE — Two Monday arrests proved that it’s not wise to drive to a court date in a stolen vehicle — especially not one that’s carrying illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia.
Lillian Ann Heim and Russell Terry Williams were scheduled for separate arraignments at the Benton County Courthouse on Monday morning.
Heim’s appearance was for theft of property of $2,500 or more, and a first offense of possession of a controlled or counterfeit substance.
Williams’ appearance was for possession with intent to deliver a counterfeit substance and fleeing by resisting arrest.
Prosecutors had not filed formal charges against the pair, so their arraignment dates were rescheduled.
At 11:50 a.m. Monday, officers were dispatched to the Bentonville Square concerning a report of suspicious activity. Officers were given a description of a blue Corvette that was parked in the area and occupied by a white male.
According to a witness, the occupant was possibly loading ammo into a magazine.
Shortly thereafter, officers spotted the vehicle traveling east on East Central Avenue. A check of the vehicle license plate revealed that it did not belong on the Corvette. Officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 1600 block of East Central Avenue.
After making contact with the driver, a check was conducted on the vehicle identification number. The vehicle had been reported stolen from Hutchinson, Kan. The occupants, Williams and Heim, were placed under arrest for theft by receiving.
During an inventory search of the vehicle, officers located numerous small plastic sandwich bags containing crystal methamphetamine. Additionally, several drug paraphernalia items were seized.
Williams and Heim were charged with theft by receiving, felony possession with intent to deliver and felony possession of drug paraphernalia.
The case is still under investigation.
