Miranda speaks for himself

I do appreciate Mr. Joe Trindle voicing his opinion, in his recent letter to the editor, as to what “ Jim Miranda supports, ” however incorrect Trindle’s opinion may be.

Let me be clear as to what Miranda supports: I do not support “ lawbreakers. ” I support the notion that all human beings should be treated with respect, regardless of station or status. I paid attention in civics class as we read our country’s sacred documents — including the document that guarantees one and all equal protection under the law. (Mr. Trindle should reread the part that says ANY PERSON. )

And that other document that speaks of the inherent equality of every man, endowed by their Creator.

And what can we say of that one document, purported to be held in high esteem in these parts, that poignantly states, “ Whatever you did for one of the least of these, you did for me. ”

It is not publicity that I seek. I seek a northwest Arkansas that upholds not only laws, but as importantly, decency and civility. Immigrants play a vital role in our community, and they deserve more than demagoguery and our disdain as their reward. I also seek sensible comprehensive immigration reform, which would work to solve these troubles visited upon us by spineless politicians and the extremists to which they pander. To further clarify what I seek, I seek sensible border security, guest-worker visas, an eventual pathway to citizenship for immigrants and, most importantly, that every one of God’s children be treated with the respect and decency that they deserve.
