Company gets statewide philanthropy award

LITTLE ROCK — Southwestern Energy Co. was recognized as an Outstanding Philanthropic Corporation by the Arkansas Community Foundation during the recent 20 th annual Arkansas Business of the Year awards ceremony.
The award is presented to companies that have shown outstanding commitment to the nonprofit sector through extraordinary corporate giving, volunteerism and philanthropy. Southwestern Energy was also recently recognized by Oil and Gas Investor magazine as Best Corporate Citizen for the company’s charitable contributions in the state.
“ Southwestern Energy has a strong commitment to doing what we can to improve the quality of life in the communities in which we work, ” said Harold Korell, president, CEO and chairman. “ We know we are making a significant impact on the Arkansas economy, but just as important is the positive impact we are having on local communities. ”
Since Southwestern Energy began operations in the Fayetteville Shale region, the company has made pledges and donations of more than $ 750, 000 to worthy causes and organizations, including Junior Achievement for a new careers curriculum for high-school students; the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton to establish a new petroleum technology program; state and federal conservation agencies to establish the Damascus Bobwhite Quail Habitat project; 4-H foundations; the United Way; volunteer fire departments; the Fayetteville Shale Scholarship Fund; and numerous others.
