NWA Minority Awards seeks nominations

The NWA Minority Awards Commission was created, according to the Web site www.nwaminorityawards.com, to show support and to recognize the accomplishments of the minority population in northwest Arkansas in their work and community. Two award shows will be presented to express that support and recognition of minorities. The community is encouraged to nominate people for these awards. The first event will be the 2006 Nia Heritage Awards Show "Celebrating the Achievements of Black Professionals." The show will start at 7 p.m. Feb. 4, 2006, at the Springdale Convention Center in Springdale. Nominate only one person or organization per category with supporting documentation and statements detailing why the nominee should be considered for the Nia Heritage Award. Award nominations may be made in the following categories: • Most Influential Male • Most Influential Female • Entrepreneur of the Year • Sorority of the Year • Fraternity of the Year • Female College Student of the Year • Female College Student of the Year • Female High School Student of the Year • Female High School Student of the Year • Female College Athlete of the Year • Female College Athlete of the Year • Female High School Athlete of the Year • Female High School Athlete of the Year • Legacy Award - This is someone who has made a difference in many lives through his/her accomplishments. They have opened doors of opportunity for today and tomorrow because of the hard work, dedication and the foundation he/she laid yesterday. • Professional Achievement Award - This person has showed continuous professional improvement in the corporate arena. He/she is a valuable asset to the employer, which they work for. They exhibit an overwhelming desire and ability to strive for excellence. • Rising Star - This person has and continues to show signs of leadership personally, professionally and in the community. • Corporate Diversity - This company has showed continuous support for the black community and events this past year. They are fair in promoting the advancement of minorities within its organization.

Deadlines for nominations are Jan. 5.

The second event will be The Triumph Awards "Celebrating the Achievements of Professional Women." It will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2006, at the Springdale Convention Center in Springdale.

Award nominations may be made in the following categories: • Most Influential Female • Entrepreneur of the Year • Female College Student of the Year • Female High School Student of the Year • Female College Athlete of the Year • Female High School Athlete of the Year • Legacy Award - This is someone who has made a difference in many lives through his/her accomplishments.
