LIVE MUSIC : Benefit aims to spare the horses

“We Speak for Them,” a benefit for an advocacy group that focuses on the treatment of horses, especially racehorses, will be held at 8 p. m. Thursday at Reno’s Argenta Cafe, 312 Main St., North Little Rock.
There will be music provided by Spaci Traci & Guests, Big John Miller and Third Degree.
Shane Sellers, a jockey who rides thoroughbred horses, will appear to sign copies of Freedom’s Rein, a book he has written. There will also be a raffle and a silent auction featuring a handmade cigar-box guitar, created by Bluesboy Jag.
Admission is free; donations will be accepted.

The group will also have a benefit at 8 p. m. Friday at The Poet’s Loft in Hot Springs, featuring Shane Sellers, Spaci Traci and Greg Cardenas.
Bluesday on Tuesday will feature Big John Miller on vocals and Steven Winter on piano at The Afterthought, 2721 Kavanaugh Blvd., Little Rock.
There is no cover charge for the 8 p. m. show.

Fastball, a hard-rocking trio from Austin, Texas, returns for its first central Arkansas show in four years Wednesday night at Sticky Fingerz Chicken Shack, 107 Commerce St., Little Rock.
Thanks for Nothing will open the show at 9 p. m.

The Rockstar Energy Mayhem Tour will bring four bands to The Village, University and Asher avenues, Little Rock, for a show Thursday night.
Doors open at 6 and the show starts at 7: 30 p. m. with sets by The Red Chord, Annabelle and Ashes of Augustine.
Underoath will headline. The band will release its as-yetuntitled fourth album Sept. 2 on Tooth & Nail / Solid State Records, which on May 27 released the group’s first live CD / DVD, Survive, Kaleidoscope.

Dex Romweber, formerly the lead singer of Flat Duo Jets, will perform at 9 p. m. Wednesday at the White Water Tavern, West Seventh and Thayer streets, Little Rock.

Romweber released the first of nine albums in 1990 and opened for The Cramps that year on tour. He later opened shows for Iggy Pop and The White Stripes. He recently signed a multi-album deal with Bloodshot Records, which will first release an album of duets between him and Cat Power, Neko Case and Exene Cervenka.
