A. W. Nelson Where I live: My wife, Marilyn, and I have two homes: one in Little Rock and one in Heber Springs.

Occupation: I am an architect with the Nelson Architectural Group. We have offices in Pine Bluff and Little Rock and do a lot of work with colleges, banks and multifamily housing (www. nelsonarch group. com ).

My favorite space: The deck at our Heber Springs house.

Why ? It’s a space that I did not design but I love because of its simplicity. We’re above the trees on the mountain below us, yet under a canopy of trees that are growing near our property. The deck is about 25 feet above a rock ledge. Our view to the west is spectacular. We can see Sugar Loaf Mountain, which is about 10 miles away, and Pryor Mountain, which is closer.

I come here to relax and clear my mind for good critical thinking. I love to sit on the deck on a clear night and gaze at the stars while thinking through a lot of issues. In the winter we have eagles that soar by, working the banks of the lake looking for lunch. It’s a good place to be alone, and it’s a good place to share with family and guests.

If I could do one thing to improve this space, I would: Do nothing. I reworked the deck about two years ago, so it’s in good shape.
