Clean: The Humble Art of Zen Cleansing

What is it ? A little book by Michael De Jong with a mission of combating environmental damage while protecting homes from toxins.

How’s it work ? The book is a how-to household guide for cleaning just about anything, with more than 200 simple recipes using baking soda, borax, lemon juice, salt and white vinegar, all of which are nonpolluting and already found in most homes. Use the index to figure out the best combination to clean whatever you need to clean, from auto-body chrome to yellowed cotton. It also includes suggestions on doing chores in an environmentally helpful way by replacing as few as one commercial cleaning product with one safe-ingredient recipe.

What’s good about it ? Offers tips to make cleaning more enjoyable, such as: Clean a little every day.

Don’t clean alone — it’s always better with two.

Anybody can clean (no excuses ). Not everything needs cleaning.

Prioritize — if a movie, play, exhibition or concert stands between you and cleaning, opt for culture. For every action there’s a reaction. When you clean, expect something marvelous in return.
