Henson films will be shown

In conjunction with the “Jim Henson’s Fantastic World” display, Little Rock’s Market Street Cinema will host a Jim Henson Film Festival.
The three films to be shown: Oct. 11 The Dark Crystal — An epic fantasy that was panned by critics and a box office flop immediately after its release in 1982. It was compared, unfavorably, to J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings tale. The DVD version of the film sold well and a cult following has developed around The Dark Crystal. A sequel, The Power of the Dark Crystal, is in the works, hoping to reach movie theaters by 2009. Oct. 18 The Muppet Movie — The 1979 big screen adventure with the whole Muppet gang including Kermit, Fozzie Bear, Miss Piggy and more. Lots of cameos by stars including Richard Pryor and Orson Welles. Oct. 25 Labyrinth — Jim Henson’s last feature film before his death had George Lucas as one of the producers and David Bowie as a goblin king named Jareth. The 1986 movie also features a young Jennifer Connelly in a starring role.
All movies start at 7 p. m. and tickets are $ 7. 50 at the door. Market Street Cinema is at 1521 Merrill Drive in Little Rock. Call (501 ) 312-8900.
