TOP 25 MEN : Davidson gets lift from Curry

NORMAN, Okla. — Stephen Curry had 33 points and nine assists Monday night and No. 21 Davidson beat James Madison 99-64 in the first round of the NIT Season Tip-Off.
Davidson (2-0 ) advanced to play No. 12 Oklahoma tonight.
Curry switched from shooting guard to point guard for his junior season, but so far it hasn’t affected his scoring. His outing against James Madison (0-1 ) marked the 16 th time in his career he’s scored 30 or more points in a game.
He left the game for good with five minutes left. Curry was 14 of 19 from the field — 4 of 6 from threepoint range — and had four steals and four turnovers. NO. 2 CONNECTICUT 99, HARTFORD 56
HARTFORD, Conn. — Craig Austrie and freshman Kemba Walker scored 21 points each and Connecticut (2-0 ) beat Hartford (0-2 ) for its 63 rd consecutive victory against an in-state opponent.
Walker, who started in place of injured A. J. Price, had five rebounds, and Jerome Dyson added 18 points and Jeff Adrien had 12 points and 15 rebounds. NO. 6 PITTSBURGH 82, MIAMI (OHIO ) 53
PITTSBURGH — Jermaine Dixon hit two three-pointers and scored nine points during Pittsburgh’s 16-2 run to start the second half against Miami (Ohio ).

MILWAUKEE — Wesley Matthews scored 26 points and Lazar Hayward added 21 for Marquette.
Matthews, who had 27 points for the Golden Eagles (2-0 ) in their season opener, shot 7-for-14 from the field and made all 10 of his free throws. He also had nine rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals. NO. 22 GEORGETOWN 71, JACKSONVILLE 62
WASHINGTON — Greg Monroe had 14 points and seven rebounds in his college debut and anchored a suffocating defense that helped Georgetown (1-0 ) build a lead and then hold on to beat Jacksonville (0-2 ).

R. Blount scored 16 points, and Loyola of Chicago (1-1 ) defeated Georgia (1-1 ) in the first round of the NIT Season Tip-Off. Travis Leslie led Georgia with 23 points, and Terrance Woodbury added 19 for the Bulldogs, who will play Eastern Michigan tonight.
SEC / TOP 25 WOMEN NO. 16 VIRGINIA 83, NO. 5 TENNESSEE 82 KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Monica Wright scored 35 points and Britnee Milner made a free throw with 6. 4 seconds left to help Virginia (2-0 ) upset Tennessee (1-1 ). Alex Fuller gave Tennessee an 82-80 lead with two free throws with 49 seconds left before Wright tied it with a jumper. Shekinna Stricklen (Morrilton ) had a chance to give the Lady Vols the lead, but she missed a jumper with nine seconds left and then fouled Miller, who made one of two free throws for the victory.
Briana Bass and Glory Johnson scored 13 points each to lead Tennessee. NO. 20 AUBURN 95, TEMPLE 76
AUBURN, Ala. — DeWanna Bonner scored a game-high 29 points and Sherell Hobbs added 20 to lead Auburn (2-0 ) over Temple (1-1 ).
Alli Smalley, who jump-started the Tigers with two three-pointers during a 12-2 run to start the second half, finished with 18 points. State roundups ORAL ROBERS 82, JOHN BROWN 58
TULSA, Okla. — Robert Jarvis scored 25 points as he fueled a comeback from an early deficit to lead Oral Roberts past John Brown on Monday night.
Jarvis was 10 of 17 from the field, including 3 of 7 on 3-pointers, and had 5 assists. He scored 13 points in the first half to help ORU erase John Brown’s 17-7 lead and take a 37-28 lead at intermission.
Andrius Mikutis led John Brown’s Golden Eagles (6-1 ), of the NAIA, with 12 points.
Oral Roberts scored the first eight points of the second half to take a 45-28 lead and John Brown never got closer than 13 points the rest of the game.
Rogers scored nine in the second half as Oral Roberts steadily pulled away with its biggest lead at 80-54 with 1: 34 left.
John Brown made its first seven shots of the game en route to a 10-point lead after only five minutes. During Oral Roberts’ rally, John Brown only made four of its last 17 shots of the first half.
John Brown was leading 20-10 with 11: 30 left in the first half when Reggie Guyton scored five points and Jarvis added four in a 12-0 run that put Oral Roberts ahead 22-20.
After a basket by JBU’s Davaughn Jackson tied the game at 22, Jarvis sank a 3-pointer to give ORU a 25-22 lead it never relinquished. RHEMA BIBLE 60, HENDERSON STATE 55
ARKADELPHIA — Henderson State built a 13-point lead, only to see it erased as Rhema Bible College ended the game on a 21-3 run to win in overtime at the Duke Wells Center on Monday night.
Henderson State (1-1 ) opened the second half by outscoring the Eagles 20-8 to build a 52-39 lead with 9: 55 left.
However, Rhema Bible kept the Reddies from scoring until 3: 52 remained, cutting the lead to 52-51. Two free throws by Kyle Oldham increased Henderson State’s lead to three before Rhema Bible forced overtime with a three-pointer with 32 seconds left.
The Reddies committed nine turnovers during the scoring drought resulting in nine points for Rhema Bible.
The Eagles (3-2 ) outscored the Reddies 6-1 in overtime.
Rhema Bible built a 26-18 lead in the first half, with Gabe White scoring eight points and Fua Igafo hitting two free throws.
Henderson State’s Vincent Patterson and Julian Bassett brought the Reddies back, scoring a combined 16 points in the half on 8 for 12 shooting.
The Reddies trailed until Patterson scored off a pass from Jerome Wilson to put Henderson State on top 31-30 as the half ended.
Patterson led the Reddies with 15 points, and Oldham scored 10. Wilson had a gamehigh eight assists.
